Meat case. FarmFreshCuts.com meat subscription.

When you’re considering whether to sign up with a meat subscription service such as Farm Fresh Cuts, one of your first questions is probably going to be…

Are your meats better than what I can get at my local supermarket?

The simple is YES, YES and YES. For a longer, more detailed explanation, read on.

Our meats are higher grade — much higher

Simply put, the meat you get from Farm Fresh Cuts is 4 to 6 yield grades higher than anything you can typically find at your supermarket.

Here’s how it breaks down: The highest grades of beef are USDA Prime Yield 1 and Prime Yield 2. Below this grade is USDA Choice. Only 2.5% of all meat produced in the United States is considered Prime, while 50% of graded beef falls under Choice. The meat we deliver to you at Farm Fresh Cuts is always USDA Prime Yield 1 or Prime Yield 2, or USDA Choice Yield 1 or Choice Yield 2.

The reality is that the vast majority of supermarket meat (87%) can’t even be considered Choice. It’s usually what’s known as U.S. Select. This grade of meat is of acceptable quality, but is less juicy and tender due to leanness.

Beef carcass quality grading is based on the degree of marbling and the degree of maturity of the animal. The more marbling, the juicier your steak. The older the animal, the less tender its meat.

By sticking only to the highest grades of USDA Prime or Choice, Farm Fresh Cuts gives you grass-fed, organic grain-finished meat that is well marbled and dry-aged for a minimum of 21 days. That means our meat is super juicy, tender and flavorful.

You’ll find a lot more waste in supermarket meat

Supermarket meat can be really affordable. But what you don’t realize is that you’re often paying for parts of the animal you can’t really eat. For example, meat sold at retail contains a lot of excess fat that needs to be trimmed off before you cook it. You’re paying for that extra weight. Supermarket meat may also have excess bone, which also contributes to the overall weight.

The meat we deliver at Farm Fresh Cuts is center cut, meaning you’re getting the absolute best part of the cut without excess fat or bone.

In all, supermarket meat contains anywhere from 30% to 40% excess fat, cartilage or bone. In other words, for every $10 you spend at your local store for meat, you’re likely wasting $3 or $4.
